The Executive Secretary

Salisu Shehu, PhD, is a Professor of Educational Psychology with the Department of Education Bayero University, Kano. Born 1966 in Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State of Nigeria, Shehu holds a Bachelor of Arts (Ed) from Bayero University, Kano (BUK), M.Ed. (Educational Psychology), BUK and PhD (Educational Psychology) from Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He worked with the Federal College of Education (Tech.), Gombe 1990-1994 after which he joined the services of BUK in 1994.

He served Bayero University, Kano in various capacities ranging from Level Coordinator to membership of the University Governing Council, University Management Committee, University Senate (2x), Postgraduate School Board and Committee of Deans and Directors. He was the Pioneer Director of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), Pioneer Dean of the School of Continuing Education and a former Director, Centre for Islamic Civilisation and Interfaith Dialogue.

Salisu Shehu has authored a number of books and also presented dozens of papers at local, national and international conferences and published in reputable local and International journals. His areas of research interest which include: Educational Psychology, Islamic Psychology, Islamic Education, Critical Issues in Education, Teacher Education, Open and Distance Learning, Critical Social Theory, Peace Education and Conflict Resolution as well as Social Justice and Good Governance and Fighting Corruption in Public Responsibility and the Private Sector.

He was a former Special Adviser to the Bauchi State Governor on Education and Societal Re-Orientation from 2007-2011, former Chairman, Governing Board, Al-Ansar Centre for Comprehensive Education, Gwarinpa, Abuja, former Vice-Chancellor, Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, former National Coordinator, International Institute of Islamic Thought, Nigeria Office, Kano, Coordinator, Educational Services, Al-Muntada Al-Islam (Nigeria Office, Kano, former Commissioner, Kaduna State Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Clash between the Army and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) 2015-2016. Shehu is also a member of the Nigerian Inter-religious Council (NIREC).

Currently, he is the Deputy Secretary General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Executive Secretary, Islamic Forum of Nigeria, Special Adviser to the President and Founder of Al-Ansar Foundation on Education, Member, Kano State Shura Council, just appointed by His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Member, Nigerian/ECOWAS Ulama Mediation Committee between ECOWAS and the Nigerien Military Administrators. He is a member of the following professional associations: International Society for Teacher Education (ISTE), International Council on Distance Education (ICDE), Nigerian Society for Educational Psychologists (NISEP), Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE), Association of Child Learning Psychologists (ACLP) among others.

Shehu also got involved in the midwifing and eventual establishment of several private universities as a member of their PLANNING AND IMPLIIMENTATION COMMITTEES. These include: Al-Isitiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State, Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, Borno State, Rayhan University, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, and currently Ummah University, Abuja. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri.
