Dr. Chima Jonas Egbujuo holds a PhD in Science Education, a master's degree in Science Education and a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the universities of Abuja, Ibadan, and Port Harcourt, respectively. He has attended many national and international training courses, seminars, and conferences with many publications to his credit.
Dr. Egbujuo, as an accomplished academic, is a dedicated education professional with extensive experience in curriculum development, teacher training, project management, and policy development. He possesses a strong understanding of education sector policies and programmes in Nigeria and is known for his commitment to advancing educational standards.
Before joining the services of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), he was a part-time Chemistry Education Lecturer at Imo State University, Owerri, Programme Officer at Konflit Solutions Consult, Ibadan, and Chemistry Lecturer at Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun during his NYSC assignment. Dr. Egbujuo has also taught Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics at the secondary school level, where his students recorded exceptional performance.
Dr. Egbujuo's expertise extends to consultancy and technical leadership in major national and international education projects. He served as the Technical Lead for the Nigeria Basic and Senior Secondary Education Curriculum Revision Project (2020 - 2025), the first ever competency and outcome-based national curriculum; Technical Lead for the development of Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) and the curriculum for overage out of school children and youth (OOSCY), a government national response to addressing the challenge of OOSCY. He currently serves as the leader of the National Task Team for the institutionalization of ABEP in Nigeria. He also leads content development for the Open School Programme and has provided consultancy services for national and international organizations such as Centre for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative, Nigeria Immigration Service Training School, Plan International Nigeria, UNHCR, UNICEF Nigeria, UKAID, Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), among others. His roles have included conducting national-scale research and developing curriculum, proposals, frameworks, and training materials focused on teacher education, professional development, and out-of-school children's education.
Additionally, Dr. Egbujuo was the lead consultant for the development of science education policy for Kaduna State, a National researcher in the ACCESS project, an international initiative managed by the University of Auckland, aimed at strengthening education systems across multiple countries, including Nigeria.
Dr. Egbujuo is an active member of several professional organizations and working groups, including Curriculum Organisation of Nigeria (CON), African Curriculum Association (ACA), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators of Nigeria (ASSEREN), Association of Behavioural Researchers, Analysts and Psychometricians (AB-REAP), Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa (EARNIA), INEE-Accelerated Education Working Group (AEWG), Education in Emergency Working Group (EiEWG)-Nigeria.
Dr. Egbujuo's career reflects a strong commitment to advancing educational quality and equity, both within Nigeria and globally. Dr. Chima Egbujuo is presently the Head of Curriculum Development Centre of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
