Council solicits Nigeria Police assistance in tackling crime and insecurity
The Executive Secretary, Prof. Salisu Shehu has sought the assistance of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in tackling the menace of insecurity and incessant theft threatening the peace of the Council.
Prof. Shehu, while speaking when he led the Management of NERDC on a working visit to the office of the Commissioner of Police (CP), FCT Command, highlighted that the Nigeria Police are critical stakeholders to the Council, hence the visit.
According to him, “We felt the need to identify with our stakeholders and bringing them to bare, what we are doing. "The Nigeria Police Force, as an institution, is a friend to all, and a critical stakeholder in all organizations, as security matters is everyone’s business. We need to establish friendship and a working relationship with the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command”.
He intimated that NERDC office headquarter is located in the outskirts of Abuja, which makes the office and people working there vulnerable to security risks, as it is not situated in the heart of the town like majority of other offices.
The Executive Secretary, while lamenting that the office is prone to security risks, asked for the assistance of the Police in the areas of the security of lives and properties. He opined that “we need special attention and support so that we will feel much more secure where we are”.
Prof. Shehu used the medium to inform the Police boss about Council’s reported case of theft of Solar Inverters already receiving attention in the Command.
While urging that nothing be spared in handling and investigating the case so as to bring the perpetrators to justice, the ES lamented that “there has been recurring theft incidences in the Council that have remained unresolved.
The resolution of the present case and the prosecution of the culprit(s) will serve as deterrent to others and we are ready to spare no resources in executing the matter”.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police FCT Command, CP Olatunji Disu, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Aliyu Abubakar welcomed the NERDC Management team and stated that the CP would have loved to be around to receive them but was unavoidably absent due to some pressing national engagement.
He reiterated that both the educational institutions and the Nigeria Police are critical stakeholders in security matters.
According to the DCP, while the educational institutions formulate policies on security, the Nigeria Police implements the formulated policies for the security of lives and properties.
The DCP, while reaffirming the Police professionalism in handling the theft matter, assured that the Command will leave no stone unturned in its investigation, as well as bringing justice to the Council.
