Prof. Sammani Sani was born on 12th January, 1950 at Fagge, Kano. His education and educational qualifications include: Qur'anic School, Maikwaru Islamiyya School of Success (1963 - 67); Government Arabic Teachers College, Gwale (1967 - 71); ABC/ABU, Undergraduate Studies (1972 - 76) and Indiana University, USA where he obtained M.A (1984) and PhD (1988) respectively.
He served in different capacities in various committees of Government and the University. He was Dean, Student Affairs, Bayero University, Kano (1998 - 99); Chairman, Bayero University Consultancy Services Unit (1996 - 99); Chairman, Bayero University Convocation Committee (1990 - 93); Coordinator, Division of Hausa Language and Linguistics (2010 - 14), Director, Centre for Research in Nigerian Languages and Folklores (2014 - date) etc.
Prof. Sammani Sani also served as member of various Committees of the University and Government Agencies including, Bayero University Governing Council (1990); Bayero University Senate (1989 - 93); Bayero University Students’ Disciplinary Committee (1989 - 92); Bayero University Admissions Committee (1989 - 99); Bayero University School of Postgraduate Studies (2004 - 10) and Bayero University Management Committee. Others are Membership of World Islamic Call Society General Congress (2000 to date); Kano State Agency for Mass Education (1990 - 91); Technical Committee for the Creation of Kano State University (1990); Governing Board member, Kano State Polytechnic (2003 - 2005) and member Hausa Language Commission, African Academy of Languages (2009 - date).
Presently, Prof. Sammani Sani is the Secretary, Hausa Language Board (2008 - date). He is happily married with six children.
